Staff at a luxury New Forest hotel are celebrating after receiving a ‘green’ accolade following the launch of a brand new scheme to promote sustainable initiatives in the region – building on its recent Tripadvisor recognition as Europe’s favourite National Park.
Balmer Lawn Hotel & Spa, nestled in the heart of the ancient New Forest, was recently awarded a ‘Silver’ eco-award from Go New Forest’s new Green Leaf scheme, for its dedication to implementing sustainable procedures during an unprecedented period for the hospitality sector.
To date, the four-star hotel has committed to improving its energy efficiency while also introducing waste, water and recycling schemes. In addition, a vast majority of its goods and produce are purchased from local suppliers to better support businesses in the New Forest community, and protect land use and nature conservation.
Michael Clitheroe, General Manager at Balmer Lawn Hotel & Spa, said: “We are so proud to receive this accolade, though we’re fully aware of the continued work that must go on to ensure a greener future. This award marks the start of our journey, and we are excited as a team to keep looking at all areas of our work and challenge ourselves to make further sustainable changes and improvements.”
The Green Leaf scheme, launched by Go New Forest, enables members to improve their performance in delivering a more responsible, net zero operation and visitor experience, all of which have become ever more important criteria in consumer decision making.
Anthony Climpson, OBE and Go New Forest CEO, said: “We’ve been working to make the New Forest the UK’s greenest destination for 30 years and our new and unique scheme is another big step towards achieving that goal. Creating a net zero operation can be a daunting and complex process, so the scheme has been designed to make participation both comprehensive and accessible.”
