Radisson Hotel Group has successfully completed a programme that sees 21 UK properties awarded with ECOsmart sustainability recognition.
The ECOsmart programme, run by Greengage Travel & Events Solutions, recognises Radisson Hotel Group’s sustainability practices at its UK hotels. It commends practices in the field of Food and Beverage, Energy and Water Conservation, Waste Management and Recycling, Corporate and Social Responsibility, and rooms, facilities and consumables.
The hotels’ sustainability initiatives are part of Radisson Hotel Group’s award-winning Responsible Business programme that demonstrates the company’s commitment to caring for its people, its community and the planet. As part of this, the group is committed to reducing its carbon and water footprint by 30% by 2025, focusing on using renewable energy and phasing out single-use plastics.
In 2021, Radisson Hotel Group announced its e-mobility partnership with Allego, a leading pan-European provider with the aim of bringing EV charging solutions to all European Radisson Hotel Group properties by 2025. The group was also recognised as an EcoVadis silver level sustainable company and signed an agreement with Ecovadis to apply the rating to its global supply chain. Furthermore, the group partnered with innovative start-up, Too Good To Go to reduce food waste and redistribute surplus food from hotels across Europe.
These achievements are key milestones within Radisson Hotel Group’s three pillars of Think People, Think Community and Think Planet. Think Planet aims to reduce the negative impact of the business on the planet and support the preservation of natural resources and destinations. As part of this goal since 2019, Radisson Hotel Group has set the industry standard for carbon neutral meetings and has been the only hotel group that off-sets the carbon footprint for every meeting and event at its hotels worldwide at no cost to delegates or organisers. In 2021, the Group launched its Carbon Negative, Planet Positive initiative to make meetings and events across 400+ hotels in its EMEA portfolio carbon negative by offsetting double the CO2 emissions. Since 2019, the Group has offset close to 40,000 tons of CO2 from meetings & events, at no cost to clients, equivalent to removing more than 8,200 fuel driven cars* off the road.
Commenting on the recognition, Pat Cussen, Regional Director UK & Ireland, Radisson Hotel Group said: “Travel agents and clients demand sustainability practices to be in place. With the ECOsmart recognition of the series of comprehensive and strong sustainability actions in our hotels and the inclusion in the ECOsmart directory, business travel clients in the UK can easily find and book our hotels.”
Andrew Perolls, CEO of Greengage Travel & Event Solutions said: “We are delighted to be working closely with Radisson Hotel Group and to see all properties scoring highly with our ECOsmart accreditation. It’s obvious that Radisson Hotel Group takes sustainability very seriously, reflected in their comprehensive approach”.
“We especially like the “Carbon Neutral Meetings” initiative, says Perolls. “Radisson Hotel Group automatically offsets the carbon footprint of every meeting and event. Other highlights include excellent staff sustainability engagement and training, water conservation measures, extensive recycling and responsible sourcing”.
