Penguin trail celebrates the ‘art of giving’ with pebble design activation

A county event which is transforming Worcester into a free, fun, art space, featuring penguin-shaped masterpieces, is encouraging residents and visitors to get creative.

The Art of Giving invites participants to design pebbles, symbolising the loving gesture of penguins exchanging pebbles during nesting. These community-contributed designs are being showcased in an innovative installation at Crowngate Shopping Centre.

A collaborative project between Worcestershire-based creative communications agency, DRPG, and St Richard’s Hospice, the one-of-a-kind creative experience is running in conjunction with the great Waddle of Worcester.

Members of the public have the chance to see their artwork projected within a specially designed set while at the same time thinking about the power of giving to others.

Speaking about the initiative, Sara Matthews, Business Development Manager for Richard’s Hospice, said:“We’re really delighted to be partnering with our friends at DRPG as part of the great Waddle of Worcester; an event which is very much about bringing the community together once again.

“Much of what we do at St Richard’s is about giving to others and that’s hugely rewarding in our fortieth year caring for patients and families.  On the flip side, we simply wouldn’t be here without all the support the community gives to us – including wonderful companies like DRPG who gift their time and creative energy.  We hope residents and trail goers enjoy designing their pebbles as loving gestures to those who matter most to them.”

Suzie Blundell, DRPG’s Creative Director of the campaign, commented: “The Art of Giving has allowed us to merge artistic expression with a meaningful cause. Using our in-house stage and scenic team to deliver the hand-crafted set, alongside the impressive projection technology adds a unique touch to each piece. It’s exciting to see how the public’s contributions transform our installation.

“Working with St. Richard’s Hospice has always been a rewarding experience. The Art of Giving campaign not only engages the community but also brings attention to the importance of creativity. We’re really enjoying seeing the amazing pebble designs from participants of all ages.”

People of all ages are encouraged to get involved in The Art of Giving campaign by designing their own pebbles, uploading their creations to the campaign’s website, and visiting the Crowngate Shopping Centre installation to see their designs brought to life.
