Meet In Wales has announced the next evolution of its Sector Strategy campaigns, this time focusing on the destination’s creative industry. The campaigns, which have previously shined a light on the country’s Renewables, Life Sciences, and Compound Semi-Conductor industries, have proved highly effective in linking together Wales’s internal business expertise and its highly successful Ambassador Programme.
As part of the campaign, existing national Ambassadors for business events will act as spokespeople for Wales’s bustling creative industry, from advertising and media, to broadcast production, esports and gaming. The destination has recently confirmed John Jackson, CEO, esports Wales, Adam Amor, Founder of content and media production agency Buffoon Media, and Richard Hebblewhite, Senior Lecturer in Computing at Wrexham University, to represent the best of Wales’s creative industries.
Equally, within the media, TV and film sector, Meet In Wales has confirmed screen writer and author, Bev Jones. As well as being a published author, Bev was also behind the Amazon Prime film ‘Wilderness’, launched earlier this year, featuring Jenna Coleman. Each of the ambassadors will join the brand’s outreach programme that is expanding rapidly across Wales’s core sectors of; Renewables, Life Sciences, FinTech, Creative, Cyber Security & Compound Semi-Conductors, Food & Drink, High Value Manufacturing, and Tourism.
Heledd Williams, Head of Business Events, Meet In Wales commented: “Wales is an inspirational place, and it’s no wonder we’re able to create so many talented people and businesses within the Creative industry. We’re the set and location for so many films and TV studio’s but we also have the media, technology and digital businesses that support them here.”
“We’re delighted with the continued growth of the ambassador programme and having globally recognised names representing this creative sector is hugely exciting. We’re looking forward to sharing their ideas on how major events can tap into this community, and its expertise, as part of their planning,” continued Heledd.
Last month the Meet In Wales team also hosted two lunch and learn sessions at Aberystwyth and Bangor Universities to promote the Ambassador Programme. The events afforded the team the chance to engage with the Universities and their academics, while also focusing on the recruitment of new ambassadors. Invited guests were treated to an informative session where new members of the programme were able to ask questions, share up and coming opportunities and workshop ideas around bringing new events to the destination.
Meet In Wales, alongside its partner SFA Connect, has created an extensive programme of engagement with its ambassadors, academics and destinations that includes; educational sessions and tool kits for universities and destinations on bidding, online sessions for ambassadors on subjects such as New Intent and DEI in events, the role of PCOs and face-to-face meet-ups that ensure both academics and university teams are aligned in their approach. The team has also produced dedicated collateral to support ambassadors and help them to better understand their influence in attracting events to a destination.
