IET Birmingham: Austin Court supports children in need this Christmas with charity pledge

IET Birmingham: Austin Court is donating one LEGO pack to Birmingham Children’s Hospital for every site visit taking place this December.

Endeavouring to always demonstrate its commitment to corporate social responsibility through actions, not words, the unique events venue in the heart of the city is aiming to match, if not exceed, the number of LEGO packs it donated to the leading specialist paediatric centre last year. Austin Court’s sister venue, IET London: Savoy Place, is also taking part in the initiative and will be donating LEGO packs to Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service, a charity providing specialist care and support to children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions. Last year, a total of 48 packs of LEGO were donated.

The LEGO packs, which are designed to support children’s cognitive and communication skills, are a key tool in the Institution of Engineering and Technology’s (IET) efforts to not only make STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) fun and inspiring for children, but also build their confidence in these subjects.

Akmal Shahzad, Venue Manager at IET Birmingham: Austin Court, said: “These children are the engineering stars of the future, and we hope the LEGO packs will go some way towards giving them just a small degree of comfort, but also inspiration, at a challenging time in their lives. Choose a venue for your next event that puts people, not profit, at its heart, and help us to bring a little Christmas cheer, and hours of fun and play, to as many of the most vulnerable members of our community as possible.”

As part of the IET, proceeds from events at Austin Court support the institution’s charitable objectives. Whether through its University Scholarship Fund, education programmes, school resources or real-world STEM experiences, every event booked at the venue makes a tangible difference to the lives of young people, and puts the building blocks in place for engineers of the future to find solutions to the world’s most pressing challenges.

IET Birmingham: Austin Court is a Grade II listed, multi-purpose events venue in the heart of the Midlands. Located in Brindley Place, on the doorstep of Birmingham’s canal network, it is home to 14 eclectic and adaptable events spaces that can accommodate up to 150 people.
