Yesterday, Monday 19th July, this incredible one-of-a-kind sculpture, created by ice-pioneers Icebox, was on display at one of London’s famous meeting points, Covent Garden. Featuring life-size characters of varying ages and different walks of life, the sculpture was a representation of people returning to normal and commemorated the easing of restrictions in England.
#PeopleTogether was ready for public interaction at 10 am and was sculpted by Icebox’s Head 3D Ice Sculptor Csaba Vass, it was 10 metres in length and contained 8,840 litres of purified water, which was then used to water the plants in the piazza. It took two weeks to create using 3D digital design and four weeks for Vass to carve. The sculpture drew interest from television’s Good Morning Britain, ITN and London Live yesterday and is featured in The Times and the Daily Telegraph today.
Csaba Vass, Head 3D Sculptor at Icebox said “This is the most challenging piece I have created with so many life-size people intricately carved in a dynamic stance. Keeping the movement and energy in each piece whilst ensuring they remain balanced was a feat, not to mention fitting it in the freezer!”
Vass continued, “Ice is an incredible medium to work with, it’s fast, versatile and sustainable. If this had been created in stone it would take years to complete. Our ice is completely transparent which magnifies details but quickly shows up any flaws. So, everything must be perfect for it to deliver the complete audience experience. I hope people will enjoy interacting with it, as while it took months of creating, it will only be here for a short while.”
Rachel Fountain, sales and marketing manager from Icebox said “This iconic piece is all about bringing #peopletogether from all walks of life. It captures the energy of a fleeting moment in time and people enjoying their lives. Bringing it to London’s historic Covent Garden piazza famed for pastimes and entertainment, is the perfect place for people to interact with this ephemeral sculpture for the hours of its existence.”
Icebox has created hundreds of high impact ice installations at major public locations such as the life-size ice replica of a Formula 1 McLaren car, ice figures for the Penny Appeal’s homeless campaign, the Ice Queen’s Throne celebrating the release of the film The Huntsman: Winter’s War, not to mention an igloo made of beer, giant space-ships, giant dogs, pool tables, bars for Guinness and Absolut and a life-size Elsa for the Frozen 2 premiere.
