Events as a force for good—emc3’s latest Reimagine event calls for sustainable industry change

emc3 is thrilled to announce the recent conclusion of their Reimagine London 2023 event, held on November 7th at 133 Houndsditch. Themed around the powerful concept of ‘using events as a force for good,’ the event delved into the pivotal aspects of forging a sustainable future in events—focusing on people, planet, and profit.

Reimagine, a vibrant community in the events and marketing sphere, brings people together to delve into crucial topics, such as sustainability, diversity and inclusion, emerging technology such as artificial intelligence, and more.

The London event brought together accomplished speakers, industry experts and event students for an exceptional lineup of speakers, engaging panel discussions, and interactive breakout sessions, all aimed at fostering sustainability and social impact within the event industry.

Alistair Graham, CEO of emc3, expressed his gratitude for the event community and the conversations that occurred during the event, saying “Our “Reimagine London 2023 event was a resounding success, and it exemplifies our commitment to using events as a force for good. We brought together an incredible lineup of speakers and industry experts to delve into crucial topics such as sustainability, diversity and inclusion, and more. The energy and enthusiasm throughout the day were infectious, and we are grateful to all participants and partners who made this event so remarkable. We look forward to continuing our sustainability and social impact journey, as well as inspiring others in the event industry to do the same, working towards the common goal of a better future.”

The day commenced with an energising activity led by Sam McNeill from Song Division, setting a lively and interactive tone by engaging the crowd in creating a song customised to the event. Attendees were then treated to inspiring talks by headline partner JUST ONE Tree and other industry luminaries, including but not limited to Linda Bekoe (CEO of APLBC), Narmeen Kamran (Managing Director of Desert Island Events), Lou Kiwanuka (Founder of Ops Nest) Benedicta Asanta (Founder of 101 events), Lisa Sweeting (Founder of Green Sense Events), Matt Grey (Managing Director of Event:Decision), and Danielle Ward (Founder and Director of reWARD events), creating an infectious atmosphere of energy and enthusiasm.

Throughout the event, attendees had the opportunity to participate in diverse breakout sessions, including “Breaking into the Events Industry” with Aisha Rigley (emc3), Jon Sibley (Manchester Metropolitan University), Carina Filek (Elevate), Zoe Tuffs (Times Ten), and Ed Brown (Event Crowd)—a tailored Q&A session with recruitment expert Robert Kenward and a roundtable discussion with Cherise Scotland (emc3) providing valuable insights into the hiring practices in the industry.

Workshops on accessibility by emc3’s Emily Maule and Rose Griffiths, and Kay Munday’s session on “The Power of Fearless Communication” left participants feeling empowered, and panel discussions on topics such as the circular economy, industry regeneration, mentorship, and community building ignited the conversation, encouraging attendees to dig deeper into their own practices.

Attendees reported that the energy and enthusiasm could be felt throughout the day, leaving people inspired and ready to contribute positively to the event industry. The event’s success was a testament to the dedication of the team, the exceptional contributions of the speakers, and concluded with a memorable custom-made song from Song Division, ensuring everyone departed with a lasting memory of an extraordinary day.
