BMA House, one of London’s leading sustainable event venues, will proudly showcase its innovative, eco-friendly practices at the Sustainable Events Show on 31st October. In recent years, the beautiful Grade-II listed venue in London’s fashionable Bloomsbury district, has emerged as a trailblazer in sustainable event planning and operations. Home to the British Medical Association since 1925, BMA House today offers an exemplary model for venues worldwide.
The Sustainable Events Show, taking place at Chicago Booth London Conference Centre, is a one-day exhibition showcasing exceptional environmentally conscious event venues, suppliers and technology companies. Delegates will have the opportunity to discover innovative sustainable event solutions and network with like-minded individuals.
“We are thrilled to participate in the Sustainable Events Show and give delegates insight into our approaches,” says Hannah Robinson, BMA House’s Venue Manager. “Reducing our environmental footprint is hugely important for us and we hope that by being part of the show, we’re helping solve the overall critical challenge of event sustainability.”
BMA House will highlight its comprehensive sustainability initiatives, spanning catering, energy usage, waste reduction, and carbon footprint tracking. Visitors will have the opportunity to learn about the venue’s:
- Carbon-impact menus: Developed in collaboration with Company of Cooks, these menus clearly display the carbon impact of each dish, allowing event organisers to make informed choices. The menus focus on locally sourced, seasonal ingredients, and have eliminated beef products to further reduce environmental impact.
- Zero-waste approach: Partnering with charity WasteKnot, BMA House is tackling food waste by incorporating produce that might otherwise be discarded due to cosmetic imperfections. This initiative ensures that surplus ingredients are put to good use, contributing to a circular food system.
- Planet Mark carbon calculator: As part of its commitment to help clients reduce their event emissions, BMA House offers a complimentary carbon calculator tool. This innovative service enables event organisers to estimate and understand the carbon footprint of their gatherings, offering insights and strategies for minimising future environmental impact.
Over the past four years, with the above initiatives in place, the venue has cut its delegate carbon footprint by 69% and is working towards a goal of carbon neutrality by 2030. Their efforts have earned them a Gold accreditation with Green Tourism and first place in the Sustainability category at the London Venue Awards. Earlier in October, it was also revealed that BMA House has retained it Platinum ECOsmart status with Greengage.
BMA House’s catering partner, Company of Cooks, has played a pivotal role in enhancing the venue’s sustainable offering. Together, they’ve created the London Larder, a menu concept that showcases locally sourced ingredients and visually illustrates the food’s journey from farm to table.
Attendees of the Sustainable Events Show are invited to visit BMA House’s stand to discover how this historic venue is leading the charge towards a greener future for events.
