Corporates can indulge in their rebellious side at this new major exhibition at Somerset House until 6th March 2022. Created to commemorate 70 years since Beano’s top mayhem-maker Dennis the menace first graced the pages of the world’s longest-running weekly comic, a wealth of artists from fiction writers, musicians, and visual artists have pushed their creative boundaries for this original spectacle, curated by artist and lifelong Beano fan, Andy Holden.
Visitors will step into a life-size version of the comic and events for up to 100 guests can take place at the epi-centre of the real-life Beanotown in the Embankment Galleries, surrounded by the comic’s best-loved characters Minnie the Minx, Bananaman, Gnasher and the Bash Street kids. In true maverick style, original artefacts have been plundered from the Beano archives to feature alongside new works of art from street artist Mark McGowan, Bedwyr Williams, Cory Arcangel and many others.
Guests can tap into their inner child with a virtual catapult slinging rotten tomatoes at some of the world’s most recognisable pieces of art and choose a track for the show on the jukebox compiled by Bob Stanley from indie dance-band St. Etienne. Artist Nicola Lane has created a brand-new strip for the show re-imagining Dennis as a 70-year-old and Peter Liversidge, whose patchwork of signs thanking the NHS and keyworkers went viral last year, invites viewers into his interactive workspace.
Organisers can book morning or evening events in the Embankment Galleries and augment them with private views of the exhibition, a guided tour or individual tickets at £16 pp + VAT.
