Through a unique new partnership with Mattel, Inc., the Design Museum will open a major new exhibition on the history of Barbie next year, with exclusive viewings available for corporate and private events.
Three years in the making and opening to coincide with the 65th anniversary of the Barbie brand in 2024, the exhibition will explore the design evolution of one of the world’s most famous dolls.
As part of its partnership with Mattel, Inc., the Design Museum has been granted exclusive access to extensive Barbie archives in California and dozens of rare and unique items will go on show, alongside other key loans and acquisitions to tell the story of the iconic brand over the past six-and-a-half decades.
The exhibition, which will explore the story of Barbie through a design lens, including fashion, architecture, furniture, and vehicle design, will be available for exclusive, private viewings for clients whether as a standalone experience or alongside a drinks reception, dinner, or party in one of the museum’s standout event spaces.
Livia Puggini, Head of Commercial Hire & Events, comments: “We are excited to see this major new exhibition open at the museum next year. Our clients are always looking for ways to enhance their event experience and our impressive exhibition programme in association with some incredibly high-profile brands means we have always something new to offer.
“Barbie-mania swept the country earlier this year so we’re expecting the exhibition to be a popular addition to the museum with clients able to enjoy an exclusive private viewing as part of their event experience or the opportunity to create their own Barbie world.”
The Barbie exhibition will open at the Design Museum from 5th July 2024. To enquire about booking a tour, private viewing, or Barbie party, contact the events team by calling 020 3862 5907 or emailing venuehire@designmuseum.org.
