The Science Museum’s Exploring Space will partially close after 22 April and fully close on 2 June 2025 as part of an ambitious transformation of the ground floor galleries marking the last chance to host an event in this popular space.
Exploring Space has welcomed tens of millions of visitors over four decades, and hosted hundreds of events from corporate dinners under the rocket to drinks receptions and networking events for clients including T2RL, CORDAP, Bayer Crop Science and Imperial College London.
The gallery, which tells the fascinating story of space exploration and features objects including a full-size replica of the lander that took Armstrong and Aldrin to the Moon in 1969 and the Soyuz TMA-19M descent module that Tim Peak returned to earth in on 18 June 2016, will be available for evening hire or daytime events as part of exclusive hire of the museum until late April 2025.
Showcasing satellites, probes, landers and space rockets, Exploring Space is the ideal landing site for drinks receptions for up to 300, dinner for up to 180 or dinner on a long table under the rocket for 80.
Jodie Fletcher, Business Development and Marketing Manager at the Science Museum, comments: “Exploring Space is one of our most popular galleries for events and there are just a few months left to experience an event here. Dinners hosted on a long table under the rocket always create such a buzz amongst guests so we’re encouraging any organisers looking to create an ‘out of this world’ experience to get in touch before it’s too late!
“The transformation of the ground floor galleries marks an exciting period in the history of the museum with lots of new opportunities and event journeys to be uncovered as we launch more galleries in the future.”
As part of the reimagination of the Science Museum’s ground floor a new Space gallery will open in Autumn 2025, followed by Tomorrow: The Peter Bennett Gallery in early 2027. Fundraising is currently underway to support Ages of Invention, which is expected to open towards the end of this decade.
