The business events industry will come together today to celebrate Global Meetings Industry Day (GMID), an international day of advocacy showcasing the value that business meetings, trade shows, incentive travel, exhibitions, conferences and conventions bring to people, businesses and communities.
This year’s theme, Meet Safe, will highlight the ways in which successful and safe meetings are possible, providing confidence to power the sector on its road to recovery.
Michael Begley, CEO of venuedirectory.com, explains:
“The travel industry—particularly the meetings and events sector—was disproportionately impacted by the severe economic disruption of the pandemic but is already well on the way to recovery.
“We’ve certainly witnessed the pent-up demand for in person events. Our enquiry levels are the same as they were in the early part of March 2020 and only 20% short of what there were at this period in 2019.
“Health and safety has a critical role to play in the sector’s recovery, with policies in place providing certainty and confidence for all parties. We have nearly 17,000 venues on our database who have a recognised safe meeting policy. Hotel bookers and event planners can choose from a wide variety of global hotels and venues worldwide and confirm safety credentials at a glance via an icon on the search results.”
